USA For Students

Organized with the joint collaboration by the American Embassy, Malaysian American Commission on Joint Educational Exchange (MACEE), Discover US Education and American Universities Alumni Malaysia (AUAM), USA For Students is an extension of Discover US ‘07. The primary objective of the event is to enable students to better plan and make informed decisions prior to furthering their studies at US universities and colleges.
 
Alumni, current students and representatives from premier American Universities will be there to share their experiences with participants. In addition, participants will get to learn about local schools that offer twinning and transfer programs into American universities, summer work and travel programs, training, exchanges, internships and more.
 
The expo will be held on June 14, 2008 (Saturday) from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.
The venue is Dewan San Choon - Wisma MCA, 163 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

Perdana Leadership Foundation Essay Competition 2008

This year, the Perdana Leadership Foundation once again invites students aged between 13 and 21 from secondary schools, colleges and universities to sharpen their writing skills and provide their thoughts on the future of Malaysia as well as youth leadership. The theme for the essay contest is “Nurturing the Minds of Future Leaders”and students can choose to write on any of the following:

(i) What is your vision for Malaysia in 2057 when the country celebrates its centennial Independence celebrations?
 

(ii)Describe what leadership means to you and the role that youth leaders play in shaping Malaysia’s future?

(iii) Describe the relationship among culture, education and leadership, and the factors that you believe are important in moulding the future leaders of Malaysand the factors that you believe are important in moulding the future leaders of Malaysia.
Your essay can be in either English or Malay; however, English is the preferred language. All essays must include references. The essays shall be of the following length (excluding footnotes and bibliography: 1,500 to 2,000 words for all categories of participants.
Grand prize is a Chevrolet Aveo along with cash, book vouchers and a two-week work stint, so start writing!

Malaysian Student Leaders Summit 2008

Organized by the United Kingdom and Eire Council for Malaysian Students (UKEC), the summit will be a platform for intellectual and scholastic discourse between prominent local leaders and Malaysian student leaders from around the world.
 
This year’s prospective speakers include Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, DYTM Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah, Y.B. Dato’ Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, YB Senator Zaid Ibrahim, Dr Farish Ahmad-Noor, Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Ambiga Sreenevasan, Prof. Dr. Shad Saleem Faruqi, Dato’ Nazir Razak, Karim Raslan, Zainah Anwar etc, while issues discussed will include transparency and accountability in governance, the restoration of faith in the judicial system, race relations, the National Education Blueprint, religious diversity etc.
 
The Summit will be held at Nikko Hotel on the 2nd and 3rd of August 2008.
 
Admission is free.

International Essay Contest for Young People 2008

The annual International Essay Competition for Young People is jointly organized by the Goi Peace Foundation and the UNESCO.

The United Nations has designated 2001-2010 as the “International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for The Children of The World” and 2005-2014 as the “united Nations Decade of education for Sustainable Development”. Not only should young people benefit from these global initiatives, but empowered to play a leading role in them.

The theme for this year is “My project to create positive change in my environment. How can I foster sustainable development in my community?” 

Young people age 14-25 from around the world are invited to submit their innovative ideas on this theme.

Scholarship Talk by Mr Yeoh Chen Chow

Are you seeking to obtain a scholarship in pursuit of higher education?

Students are invited to attend a scholarship talk by Mr Yeoh Chen Chow at the Malaysian Mensa Administrative Office on Saturday 1 March 2008 at 3pm.

Mr. Yeoh, a former JPA scholar, has vast experience in areas relating to financial aid in tertiary education. He has gone through scholarship interview and application processes, and will share his experience and insight.

This talk is free of charge for Malaysian Mensans who have renewed their membership for 2008.

For non Mensans, a nominal fee of RM5 would be charged.

IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for Young Malaysians 2008

Event Update: IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for Young Malaysians 2008
 
The IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for Young Malaysians 2008 essay-writing competition is now open to all Malaysian students aged between 14 and 18 as of March 31.

This topic for 2008 is “Tomorrow’s World”, and the essay should be between 800 and 1,200 words. Factual and fictional accounts are both accepted.

The best overall essay will earn the writer and parent a trip to Dublin to attend the gala ceremony of the world’s richest book prize, International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

The contest, held for the sixth consecutive year, is organised by the Irish Embassy, IMPAC, The Star and the National Library of Malaysia with support from the Education Ministry.

Entries must be submitted by March 31.
